Keep your eyes out for LendAround - a new web tool that allows people to lend out the stuff they are no longer using (starting with DVDs). The site is currently in beta testing mode and has a waiting list for new members, but hopefully soon will be opening up to more users.
After you register, you make a list of stuff you own (namely, DVDs) and stuff you would like to borrow. Then, list the friends and contacts you trust, and LendAround sends them an email notification. You control who you allow to view your list. Once you are approved, you can browse through your friends' DVD collection from your own home.
